Man, what he wouldn't give for human vocal chords to be compatible with speaking binary. It was so much easier to express precise intentions and emotions in binary than it was in standard speech. Maybe he could try writing it down? Even put the proposal in the form of a poem? That would certainly be seen by many as romantic, though he didn't think it was quite their style.
Or perhaps he could lead with some kind of gift? Rings were common, even among betas, and definitely something he wanted to include eventually, but maybe not to start. Maybe one of those weighted blankets his code-brother had been considering? Or something more traditional, like flowers, expensive candy, or a fancy dinner date? Though any kind of gift would require putting off the actual conversation to allow time to buy or arrange it...
It was about then that his code brother arrived with the cocoa, liberally doused with marshmallows and on the convenient little tray they'd bought. He smiled, accepting and raising his own mug in the small toast before taking a sip. Mmm... his omega must have used the stove top to heat the milk; that always produce slightly better results, provided they had time to do it. He took another, longer sip hoping it would inspire him with some way of starting the conversation, but alas, it did not. Glitch it...
Fortunately, he was spared for the moment as his code brother seemed to want to talk about something else. He nodded slightly. "Alright," he said. "Go ahead." Maybe he could come up with something in the time the ensuing conversation would take.

He was distracted a moment by the evident pleasure etched across his code-brother's face as he took a deeper pull of his cocoa.
Mesmerizing, but it wouldn't locate the right words for him.
Clu opened his mouth. Sucked in air. Closed his mouth. No way was he starting with I have this friend. That was a seriously junior move, and it could go sideways. Likewise, he was definitely not leading with you're a great guy--even in a perfect system, that was something people said when they didn't want to be a unit anymore.
Clu cleared his throat, lifted his cocoa, and tried again.
"Sure!" A sip too quick and too hot stinging his tongue, scraping the back of his mouth, swallowed ferociously, breath let out in a puff. "We have a good thing here," slowly, "I mean, the User world is not always, perfect--but I like our work, and I like our, place, and I like sharing all of it with you. A lot. I really enjoy it."
Yes! Excellent. Now if he could just say AND I WANT YOU TO BITE ME. HARD. Instead he got a little dry sighing noise, the audible version of the spinning blue circle.
"I just think we're making something, valuable, together." Uncool. He sounded like a corporate retreat, and he could feel his face changing color, slowly going red. Extremely uncool. "I, what d'you--what are your thoughts? I wanted your perspective."
He blew harshly on his marshmallows before sipping again.
Your move.

Unfortunately, he had only a moment to ponder that question before the metaphorical ball was passed to him. Glitch, now he would have to come up with something. Well, at least one thing he could answer with confidence. "Yeah," he said. "I mean it's had its ups and downs, especially at first, but overall it's been pretty great. I've really been enjoying it. Living and working here with you, putting this place together, and learning all about our new situation here." A bit of emphasis and a slight smirk on 'all', bringing to mind how much of that learning had happened... in private.
"But even the challenging parts have been enjoyable in their own way. Mostly because we were able to work through them together." Was that a good segue? It sounded like a good segue. Now if only he had something equally good to segue into.
He took another sip of his cocoa to buy himself a little more time. "We're a lot more effective together than on our own. I think we've both known that for awhile now." Glitch no, that sounded way too formal. The same sort of dancing around his code brother had been doing. He needed to stop doing that. He took a deep breath, then let it out. "I guess what I'm saying is... what would you think about making it more permanent? In like, an official way?"
That was... way more awkward than he'd been hoping for. But hopefully it was fairly clear, at least.

It was just that he hadn't felt this way in so long. Fierce hope and possessive pleasure warred with nervousness, with hesitation, further challenging his calm--strong new instincts alert for good signs and scents and hedged against causing his alpha displeasure or distress. It was definitely easier to blame his omega nature than admit even the remotest possibility he might be scared: of whether he was blowing it, of what alpha's answer might be, of how he would take it, either way...
Because, Clu realized, blinking, that he'd accept either answer. If they had a future together, he'd go anywhere and do anything to make that happen. Everything his code-brother asked.
And if they didn't--Clu was more scared of the certain knowledge that he would put his code-brother first. Do what made him happy. Put someone else above himself.
Maybe he hadn't felt this way, ever, about another being.
"I--" Glitched for bugs, it was too important to dance around any longer! Why couldn't he get the words out?
If his code-brother didn't want him, then he didn't. It was that simple. It would be that simple. He could take it.
Except--those were not the kinds of things his alpha was saying. He was saying other things. Collaborative things, about how effective they were, about how good it was to work through problems together, and it's been pretty great (with that little smirk for it's all been pretty great putting a sharp flicker of pleasure in him.)
"Oh," just a breath, hopeful, and then, "Oh like--Official, official," which was just idiocy, a waste of syllables. "Yeah, man!"
Sharp, but enthusiastic.
Deep breath. Go more carefully. Give him a second to put his cocoa down, so he doesn't inhale it and die.
"Exactly, I want to--what do they even do, here--" Hot hot face, teeny tiny words, but definite and precise as thumbtacks. "I really wanna bundle with you. Permanently."
